During his senior year at Saint Francis School, his performances had earned him the ‘Class 1A Player of the Year of the state of Georgia’ award. He was also named in the ‘All-State Class A First Team’.His stellar show had seen him get college basketball offers from several institutions including the University of Connecticut, the University of California, Los Angeles, the Wake Forest University, and the University of Oregon. He eventually chose to join Florida State University.During his freshman and only season at Florida State University, he was named to the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference)’s ‘All-Freshman Team’. At the end of the season, he had undergone surgery to treat a stress fracture in his right leg. Although he had declared for the NBA Draft in March 2016, the injury had prevented him from participating in pre-draft workouts.
