Coles gluten free food: GF logo hidden on supermarket products

Gluten free chocolate lovers rejoice as a coeliac website has discovered the secret to one of Coles’ popular products.

Maybe you’ve discovered it or maybe you haven’t but either way it’s an “ahhh, really?” moment.

The supermarket’s own branded Chocolate Celebration Cake doesn’t immediately scream “gluten free” but it is — you just have to look very closely.

Usually gluten free products are clearly labelled in a big bold font on the front of the packaging, but in this case you have to do a bit of box flipping to see the “GF” and “V” (vegetarian) logos actually exist on the side — just above the barcode.

Aussie Coeliac discovered the amazing fact, telling fellow sufferers the good news about the “light and fluffy chocolate sponge cake” they can actually enjoy.

While the $12 cake is “temporarily unavailable” on the Coles website, a spokesman told news.com.au it is still available for purchase in stores.

If you were to shop for it on the Coles website, you wouldn’t know it was a gluten free product as the picture they’ve used doesn’t show the logos (unless you scroll down to the ingredients section).

But, now you know — you just need to physically go in store to purchase it (it’s in the nakery section) — at least this will save you from searching for those “GF” logos.

“This will be my go-to celebration cake from now on, it is great on price and tastes delicious,” the unearthed blog post on Aussie Coeliac from last year read.

“The cake has a lovely chocolate flavour and is suitably moist. It isn’t too dense but if left out it does get a little dry.”

Be sure to check it for any additional allergies you might have as the cake contains soy, egg and milk.
