Avril Lavigne premieres video for soulful new single 'Tell Me It's Over'

Publish date: 2024-05-27

Avril Lavigne’s new single may be titled ‘Tell Me It’s Over’ but it’s a song we wish didn’t have to end. From start to finish, it really is a musical masterpiece!

The Canadian singer’s latest offering is unlike anything she has ever released before. With a retro sound inspired by the likes of Aretha Franklin and Etta James, ‘Tell Me It’s Over’ is a departure from Avril’s rock roots. Her incredible vocals blow us away.

Reflecting the meaning of the song, the single’s official video shows the highs and lows of a doomed relationship. Nick Hinman plays Avril’s on-screen beau and the stunning visuals, which premiered online yesterday, were directed by Erica Silverman.

Speaking about her new single, Avril said: “‘Tell Me It’s Over’ is an anthem about being strong, finally putting your foot down and closing the door on a relationship that you know is wrong after time and time again of falling for their games. If someone doesn’t treat you the way you deserve to be treated, don’t put up with it. It’s understandably so hard because in the past every time you saw them, they sucked you in and you fell right back into their web, but not anymore starting now!

“The vocals and lyrics are very vulnerable which is reflective of the feelings I had in relationships like these. I wanted to write something classic and have been inspired by some of the timeless queens I listen to at home, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. They represent women who stand up for women and aren’t going to put up with a man’s bullshit anymore!”

‘Tell Me It’s Over’ is currently available here on iTunes and here on Spotify. It’s the second single to be lifted from Avril Lavigne’s forthcoming sixth album ‘Head Above Water‘ which is set to hit shelves on the 15th February 2019. The title track served as the beautiful first single from the record.

Avril’s glorious comeback is definitely one of our personal highlights this year and we can’t wait to hear the rest of her new album. Based on the first two singles and the hitmaker’s phenomenal discography, we’re certainly in for a treat next February. It’s far from over for Avril and her fans!
