Amir Khan calls for fight with Jake Paul despite being banned from boxing for failing drug test

Amir Khan wants to come out of retirement to fight Jake Paul.

The former unified super-lightweight world champion walked away from boxing after getting stopped in six rounds by his long-time rival Kell Brook at London’s O2 Arena in February 2022.

Paul, who has been making a splash in the world of boxing for several years, recently improved his record to 7-1 by outpointing UFC legend Nate Diaz.

Khan has been watching from afar as Paul navigates his way through the sport and it’s safe to say he isn’t a fan of the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

"Jake Paul, he gets on my nerves a little bit," Khan told Heart.

"I think the way he conducts himself, the way he acts, and he’s just full of himself as well and he thinks he can fight, he’s only been boxing for like a year, so yeah, I’d love to fight him.”

Khan's career-highest weight was 155lb for a clash with Canelo Alvarez in May 2016, and that didn’t end well as he was brutally knocked out by the Mexican legend.

To make a fight with Paul, Khan would need to put on another two stone to be anywhere near the influencer's 183lb weight.

He added: “He’s been very lucky though, he’s a little bit heavier than me but I don’t mind putting the pounds on just to beat him up."

Besides a massive weight discrepancy, the fact Khan is currently serving a doping ban means a scrap between him and Paul cannot happen anytime soon.

In April, the 36-year-old was banned from boxing for two years after being found to have had ostarine in his system following his defeat to Brook.

Khan’s suspension from the sport was backdated to April 2022. That means should he want to make a comeback to the ring then he will be able to do so in April 2024.

The British boxing legend was able to convince UKAD that his ingestion of the banned substance was not intentional before being hit with a lengthy ban regardless.

Since then, Khan has spent over £100,000 trying to find out how ostarine got in his system but is still none the wiser despite speculating it may have come from sharing a drink with one of his friends who uses steroids.

Paul, who is currently looking for an opponent, hasn’t responded to Khan’s call out.

The 26-year-old is expected to face the winner of KSI vs Tommy Fury before turning his attention to MMA after signing a deal to fight in the Professional Fighters League [PFL].

Khan might need to look for another opponent if he wants to make a comeback.
